Trace Pictures picks up a silver win at this year’s Promax BDA design competition held in L.A. last week. Trace’s innovative demo reel placed second in the self-promotion/show reel/company image category. The competition was fierce as Trace was nominated alongside Comedy Central and Disney.
Trisha Emerson, Executive Producer explains the root of the concept, “The idea for this reel came from a rather awkward screening at an ad agency. The Creative Director of the agency said that he had seen the likes of us 3 or 4 times this week alone. As hard as it was for us to hear this, it pushed us to position ourselves differently. And that’s when we had the idea of doing a hosted reel.”
Justin Stephenson, Creative Director and host of the winning reel continues, “Montage reels really do suck! Its nice to show people a range of your work but it really needs to be accompanied with a conversation about what our role is. You can’t really trust a montage to say it all for you. A lot of work is the result of the chemistry of the collaboration between us and our clients. A straight up montage reel just doesn’t give you a sense of what that might mean.”
